For the early morning game, it was either PIT or CBJ. After consulting ATSSTATS, considering both games are paying the same odds, PITTSBURGH was the obvious choice. Here’s what we see when we look to PIT today…

PITTSBURGH

  • in a home game where where the total is 5.5 they are 20-6
  • when playing on back-to-back days they are 9-4
  • revenging a loss versus opponent they are 11-3

When PITTSBURGH team played as a home team two back to back games With no Situations Coming off a home win: SU 11-2-0

ST.LOUIS

  • in March games they are 8-3
  • after allowing 4 goals or more they are 9-4

When ST LOUIS team played as a road team two back to back games Coming off a road loss: SU 18-20-3

When ST LOUIS team played as a road team two back to back games Coming off a 3 goal loss Coming off a road loss: SU 4-3-1

PITTSBURGH has a slight L7G SOS edge here today.
The best way to look at the SOS is not only in tandem with the PVI ratings to expose which teams are “on the verge” but also when we look at SOS in tandem with the different Stars Ratings, it gives us a clue as to how eligible a team is to repeat the historical considerations where they have done very well (or very poor), in the past.

The RAYMOND REPORT is showing that both teams are well above par compared to the rest of the league but even still, PITTSBURGH is just slightly superior in a few more areas than ST. LOUIS. Either way, S.O.S. is hinting that STL won’t be able to replicate their par in today’s position.

The psychology is difficult to discern:

  • Both teams are assured a playoff spot.
  • Both teams will be protecting themselves against injury.
  • Both teams are jockeying for a better playoff position
  • PIT won’t be overlooking STL and remembers the 3-2 loss vs STL last year

The one point that makes me somewhat nervous is that STL has shown up HUGE in terms of defense L15G whil PIT has been quite a bit more porous. With that said, looking at the L2G, STL’s scoring has been all but non-existent and PIT has clobbered in 8GF L2G. Also, looking at the L2G, STL’s defense has eroded and is on par with PIT L2G GA record.

So all in all, while STL looks like they should be at least an equal matchup when judging L15G GF/GA…and although there is a chance that they could come out with their typical Fort Knox defense…ATSSTATS is recommending that the chances of them picking up their act, here today, is minimal. Likewise, ATSSTATS is showing PITTSBURGH to do their best work.

Today’s Prediction: PIT to win 5-3.
