Today we’re going to look at TOR @ MIN. Considering these teams are paying near even odds, we’ve found a pitching edge for Toronto that we think is worth looking into.

Let’s look:

PITCHING

Starting the bump for Toronto today is Brandon Morrow:

  • Historically, Morrow has 12 at bats vs MIN batters under a .300 average (across 4 batters)
  • HistoricallyMorrow has 3 at bats vs MIN batters over a .300 average (across 1 batters)

On the mound for Minnesota today is Phil Hughes:

  • Historically, Hughes has 71 at bats vs TOR batters under a .300 average (across 4 batters)
  • Historically, Hughes has 74 at bats vs TOR batters over a .300 average (across 6 batters)

  • Morrow threw a dismal 5.74ERA in Spring Training (across 15.2IP)
  • Morrow has maintained mediocrity with a 5.73ERA in the Regular Season.
  • Hughes threw a 4.74ERA in Spring Training (across 19IP)
  • Hughes has backslid to a vulnerable 7.20ERA in the Regular Season.

Did you know:

  • MORROW is 2-0 when starting against MINNESOTA with an ERA of 2.77 and a WHIP of 1.000.
  • HUGHES is 5-6 when starting against TORONTO with an ERA of 5.02 and a WHIP of 1.390.

Historically, Morrow has dominated MIN.
In his last outing, he allowed 3 runs across 6IP but he seemed to come into his own as he struck out 1 short of double-digits vs Houston batters with 9Ks.

Hughes, on the other hand, has traditionally performed miserably vs Toronto.
In his last outing, Hughes allowed 4 runs across 5IP with only 3 measly strikeouts.

The Raymond Report shows that TOR has an excellent record facing Minnesota, and all that much more when coming off an 11 run game.

To sum up this bet, simply put, Hughes has an atrocious record pitching against TOR and Morrow has traditionally done very will. Morrow brags a whip of 1.000 across a 2-0 record.

MIN has a small edge with the bats, but at the end of the day, it’s the Toronto pitching that raises my eyebrow. Toronto bats will have every opportunity to score vs Hughes and the Minnesota bullpen so I don’t see why Toronto wouldn’t be as good a bet as any.

Tonight’s Prediction: TORONTO to win 7-5.
