Pick: Washington Nationals (line is TBD)
The Nationals are on a 4 game heater with no signs of slowing. They rested their best hitters yesterday so they’ll be expected to be in the lineup today.
Not only is Fister pitching like an ace with an all season stats of 2.55 ERA, but he’s throwing that same consistency his last 3 games. On top of that, in his one outing vs Miami, he stymied their hitting with a 1.13 ERA and a 1.000 WHIP. Talk about heated!
Today, the Washington lineup will face Brad Hand who is a mediocre 4.36 ERA all season, yet is throwing a decent 3.31 ERA last 3 games…but before we even think about Hand’s chances we have to factor in that he is 0-4 vs Washington and has a dismal 8.03 ERA with a 1.986 WHIP vs the Nationals. The Nationals are at their hottest right now, so this spotted history is that much more relevant.
There is no doubt that when this line is announced it will be in the high -200s and we don’t usually bet high chalk; but, with this kind of historical dominance combined with real-time excellence, we’ve seen comparable lines where a lot more can go wrong. For this reason, there should be some good value with this high chalk consideration.
Since the Washington Nationals have clinched their playoff spot, it needs to be noted that their star hitters might take another day’s rest. If that is the case, if we don’t see the likes of Werth, LaRoche, Rendon, Desmond, Harper in the lineup today, then all bets are off because our entire consideration is depended on the WSH Batter vs MIA Pitcher matchup.
This must be a game-time wager based on the official lines.
- Nationals are 29-19 vs the Marlins last 3 seasons.
- Miami Marlins are hitting a sub-zero 2.4 RPG last 7 games.
Although they played yesterday, the Nationals rested all of their stars yesterday. We think there might be some relevance with the following consideration:
When WASHINGTON team played as a Favorite With 1 day off During the 2014 season: The ML tally is 10-2-0 in this position.
