Chicago Cubs vs. Florida Marlins Preview & Prediction

Things have not gone well for the Cubs this season, even though they have struggled to win more games. Defending champions certainly know that playing on the road is very important, they must prove to their fans that they are still a powerful team and can reach the postseason.

Chicago Cubs has 37 wins and 36 losses in the current season, has not been a fruitful the start of the season for the Cubs. In the last 15 games they have only won 7 games and 8 painful defeats. The Cubs problem is in the bullpen. Starter pitchers have struggled to win games: Lester 4-4, Arrieta 6-5, Lackey 5-7, Hendricks 4-3 injured, Butler 3-2, Brett Anderson 2 months out for a 2-2 injury.

In the second game of this series against the Marlins in Florida, the Cubs are expected to continue to demonstrate power. Chicago’s record on the road is 14-19 with an average of 4.60 runs allowed, 3.46 walks, 8.37 hits, 1.23 home runs. Those numbers do not favor the Cubs at all, they’re allowing the hosts’ offense to humiliate them on the road. The pitchers work has been poor and they have been affected by injuries.

Jon Lester will open the game against Miami Marlins, it is the first time he faces the Marlins in the current season, so far he has 4 wins and 4 losses for a .500.

The Lester numbers are not so bad compared to the start of the previous season. In 2016, Lester finished with 19 wins and 5 losses, plus .792 ERA, 2.44 ERA and 1,016 WHIP. This year his average is in the standard point, 3.89 ERA and 1,308 of WHIP.

The Miami Marlins know that the weak point of the Cubs is the poor defensive they have at the moment. The problem with the Marlins is that they are in a situation similar to the Cubs. A season disaster, 32 wins and 38 losses, the end of this season is expected to be similar to the previous one with 120 losses.

In the last 12 home series, the Marlins have only won 6 series, lost 5 and tied 1. Marlins knows how to win home games but they still have too many offensive and defensive problems, the average home runs allowed is 5.49 runs, 3.60 walks, 8.91 hits, 1.49 home runs, 13.66 left on base. The starting pitcher will be Justin Nicolino, 0-1, .000, 4.46 ERA, 16.0 innings, 4 hits allowed, 4 home runs allowed, and 1,680 WHIP. He is a rookie.

There is no way for Miami Marlins to win this game, it is practically impossible, even though the Cubs are not in good shape, they will not be able to score enough runs to win at home against the champions of last season. The stakes tonight will be in favor of the Cubs, they need to win the second game of the series and prove to the fans that they still have chances of another championship.
