FANTASY BASEBALL: STRETCH RUN SAINTS

There’s roughly six weeks left in the regular season, and you are either in contention, or in a position to be a spoiler.  If you are in a head to head league, you are fighting for playoff position and if you are in a roto league you are scrounging to move the needle.  I love fantasy baseball, I love the drag, I love swoons and the streaks, the slumps, and the zones players get in, I love the challenge of chasing stats, and thoughtfulness of the grind that fantasy baseball is.  It’s still survival of the fittest by the end of the year and if you have something to play for the chances are that your roster could use some tweaking.  Personally, I’m a little aggravated, that my 12.5 game lead in my high dollar roto league has dwindled down to 4 games due to injuries to James Paxton, Masahiro Tanaka and Bryce Harper.  Ok I don’t have Bryce Harper, but have both Rendon and Murphy, and they have noticeably been worse since Harper’s injury.  Just a little context, but I’d rather you take a look at these potential roster saints for the stretch run…. We’ll land the plane on offense and cover pitching later.   Hit and run time.

Eddie Rosario OF – Minnesota Twins

The 20th ranked offensive player in the last 30 days is only owned by 58% of the fantasy community, but has been a total beast slashing a 21/7/20 line with a .377 obp.  Listen 20 of anything in a month is good, and he has been a run scoring and power machine.  The Twins have a super sneaky ninja line up, so consider Rosario if you are chasing counting stats that aren’t SBs.

Curtis Granderson OF –  Los Angeles

With this recent trade, Granderson is officially a journeyman who is recognized by the MLB community as a clubhouse gem that contributes with both his bat and glove.  Owned in only 34% of leagues he’s actually been mashing this month with 8 bombs and 20 RBIs, including a .367 OBP.  If you need OF punch, Grandyman is a must add.

Eugenio Suarez 3B – Cincinnati Reds

If you are trailing in runs week in and week out, or lagging behind in Roto Suarez is a great add who won’t hurt you in other stats.  He has decent power in a great line up, and hitters ball park, and gets on base a ton.  OBP above .400 and plus runs equals a great add at the 3B position, especially if you are covering for an injured Joey Gallo

THE NEED FOR SPEED

You have a lot of options here so take your pick.  Personally in my roto league I can make the most ground up in steals, so I’ve loaded up on all sorts of SB specialists in the last two weeks, and it has paid off dearly.

Ben Revere and Rajai Davis are usually available, and are stealing bases by the bucket load right now.  Revere plays way more than Davis but both would help you get that uptick you need in that column.    Whit Merrifield and Delino Deshields are both available and bat lead-off.  Deshields has been great recently and is in a good spot.  Good luck with your respective stretch runs gamers and remember… finish strong!
