This is a weird week folks so let me make a few things clear. I don’t have a great feeling about it, so I’m going to play light, almost no money dropped into GPPs. For me there are two criteria I’m looking at when building my GPP lineups. I am looking for super cheap players usually $6100 or less, that are moving into situation where they will be getting “starter” type volume. A lot of times these players are determined throughout the week after FanDuel pricing has been set based on injuries to starters or in some cases trades, like Adrian Peterson… where Alvin Kamara moves to a RB2 and instantly moves to 15 touches per week. The second criteria is to identify a player that the field will be avoiding because he looks like he’ll have a tough matchup or because the field defaults to other players that have better matchups. I will roster these players with the hopes they go off and that their ownership percentage is in the single digits. That’s the angle I’m going at this week.
QUARTERBACK – FitzMagic Time??
If Ryan Fitzpatrick fills in for an injured Jameis Winston I love his spot in the DFS universe this week. Hey was a beast last week coming in, in relief and this week he returns to Buffalo where it all started. His price tag is $6500 in a week where there are limited value picks at the QB position. In other words, I will be predominately spending big at the QB spot.
Cam Newton $8100 is a beast on the road, and it doesn’t matter whether or not Kelvin Benjamin is active. At his price he will fall under the radar with players like Mariota and Prescott having favorable matchups. Medium price, low owned.
RUNNING BACK – Watch Ivory Coast
In a unique situation I like both Fournette or Chris Ivory this week. If Fournette does play he will be low owned because he hasn’t practiced all week. You many have to sneak him in there Sunday morning. If it’s determined that he’ll be limited or inactive Ivory at $5900 becomes an amazing value play. His ownership will go up, and he should get cash game consideration behind one of the best O-lines in the league right now.
WIDE RECEIVER – Green With Envy
Both Antonio Brown and Julio Jones will be highly owned this week, because they have favorable matchups but A.J. Green has one of those two. He’ll get 13 targets give or take in this game, including red zone and deep targets in this one, and could have the best WR week amongst all WRs not named Amari Cooper.
Brandin Cooks $7800 will also get overlooked. Those looking for a New England pass catcher will lean towards Gronk, Amendola or Chris Hogan, but in a GPP Cooks has as much a chance to go off as anyone else. Brady will attempt 40-45 passes in this one is my guess, and the Falcons haven’t seen Cooks in the New England offense, so this could be an interesting play.
TIGHTEND – Golden Graham
Don’t forget about Jimmy Graham $5800. He doesn’t have a favorable matchup and there are a bunch of TEs that are seemingly in better spots. From a GPP perspective, this guy could be great getting 7-9 targets including red zone looks. Very few LBs can cover Graham, so he’ll get looks, but the volume will justify a GPP play.
DEFENSE – New Orleans Saints
Listen, this is one of the best defenses Week 2-6 in the NFL. I know they go to Lambeau but they get a QB making his first start. This defense can score TDs too… and for $4500 why not give them a shot in a GPP or five. This is a super sneaky ninja pick for me this week, but it could pay off even if they give a few TDs.
Good Luck Gamers.
