You’ve got your cash line up squared away and now its time to have a little fun with some funky GPP lineups. You should’ve been building cash piles over the last three months, so this may be the week to throw up some hailmarys in some GPP tournaments. If you’re a cash only player, I don’t blame you…your chance of finishing in the black is exponentially more, you just have no shot at winning the DFS lottery…which again is totally fine. For me, I’m exclusively a 50/50 and double-up player most week, and every now and then I’ll put down a 5-10 entry rotation of players with about 3-4 core plays. It’s only when I’m killing it in cash though. I know many players that are just playing GPP line-ups in GPP games, and I have no issue with this strategy. Let’s take a look at some GPP plays that could sneak up on the field this week.
QUARTERBACK – Tyrod Taylor
New England has had issues with QBs that run, and this game should make the Patriots and their fans extremely nervous. The Patriots front 7 is not overly fast or athletic, meaning Taylor will have every opportunity to extend plays, something both Alex Smith and Cam Newton did well against New England in wins where they both scored over 25 fantasy points. In Tyrod We Trust
RUNNING BACK – Kenyan Drake
In GPPs we are looking for as many guys that we can roster that we think will have career games. Players like Devin Funchess, Ted Ginn Jr. and Alvin Kamara have all broke out major games that got a lot of people paid. It’s hard to do, but you gotta try. I can see Kenyan Drake snatching a bunch of volume as the RB1 at home against Denver this week. This Denver defense simply hasn’t brought the funk like we expected, so look for Drake to get a bunch of run.
WIDE RECEIVER – Jermaine Kearse
When the field is all over Robby Anderson who now costs $7200 this is the perfect week to flip off the field and go Jermaine Kearse. Anderson who has TDs in 5 straight games will eventually come crashing down, which means some other Jets receiver will go off. The matchup at home to the Chiefs is better than good, so look for Anderson to get all the attention and Kearse to reap the all the rewards
TIGHTEND – Hunter Henry
The Browns are one of the worst teams against TEs, but Henry is a good play because the field doesn’t really think Henry will get a lot of play. And they could be right, because Henry has laid eggs for us in the past in good spots. We all know Philip Rivers has a ton of receiving options and can spread the ball around to the likes of Keenan Allen, Travis Benjamin and even Melvin Gordon. Everyone loves Keenan Allen again, so why not Henry, this is the thing GPPs are made of.
DEFENSE – Chicago Bears
I’ll own the fact that my record with QBs and Defenses is below average, so take that for data. I have more whiffs at Defense than any position… I spend big and they get shelled… I try to go value and they still get shelled, but I’m not giving up. This week I love the Bears at home against the 49ers. The Bears are great at home and very stingy on defense. I believe they are going to slow this game right down with a steady dose of Jordan Howard and limit the 49ers possessions. Don’t be too quick to anoint Jimmy G at the QB position, he ain’t playing for Belichick and he doesn’t have the same WR unit to throw to so feel free to pump the breaks. I’m a BEARS fan this week.
