WORLD SERIES OF HANDICAPPING WEEK 16 RECAP: Playing for Pride

December 27th, 2017

There’s nothing we can do at this point, and it’s kind of sad for all but one in this year’s World Series of Handicapping.  As Week 16 has passed us by, it was chalked full of great games with playoff implications abound.  There were a few bad beats, but for the most part it was a chalky day.

The top 3 finishers for Week 16, as far as I can recall are all first time mentions on the list, and props to them nailing a tough week, with some big spreads.  Godfather0272 led the way with a 6-1 record and the second highest point total a participant can earn in one week.  I love the TEN pick with the highest confidence level… so props to them for that. The Titans are currently a playoff time, and the Rams who just doused the Seahawks were projected to come out flat…   the Rams didn’t come out flat however, but TEN was up to task…  I agreed with this call but by no means was I as confident as Godfather2072.  “Accidents don’t happen to people who take accidents as a personal insult” Mario Puzo…  Those cursed Dallas Cowboys however did cost Godfather0272 $50… Russell Wilson will do that to you.  Other competitors like MadGeniusofFB and Psychology all had Kansas City and Cincinnati and two had Tennessee and New Orleans… both value picks according to Vegas.

So what about Allredb1?? Surely crumbled in the pressure right?  Punted the week, because they were confident with their big lead no doubt? Well not exactly… while taking their proverbial victory lap they posted a 4-2-1 record this week, with the 5th highest score… while also selecting two over/under outcomes with their highest two confidence points.  Either way it paid off… and it should be noted that none of the other top four finishers for the week chose to predict over/under outcomes, all 28 games were against the spread.  Consequently Elroysports finished in the negative in week 16 creating further separation between them and the leader.

Which brings to the penultimate leaderboard for the 2017 World Series of Handicapping contest.  A leaderboard that has four often mentioned names which goes to show you that consistency will win out in the end, and boom or bust is not the way to go in this game.  Allredb1 tops the charts, with an insurmountable lead and the championship all but in hand.  Elroysports has been there from the start, with a slight dip in the middle of the season, but a strong comeback in the final weeks.  Romoney1977 who held the overall lead at one point has lingered, which demands recognition in this grueling contest.  KdubbNM who has also posted weekly high scores rounds out the top 4… if Allredb1 didn’t exist only 3 points would separated Elroysports from KdubbNM giving us all the finish we would expect.  But Allredb1 offered the contest a big old fat rain check on the dramatic finish, and no one can really blame them.  Let’s see if they’ll finish strong… while the rest of us finish with pride.
