NBA DAILY PICKS 1/31: Parody finally?

January 31st, 2018

We all know that the Warriors, will play the Celtics or the CAVs in the finals in what will be one of the most predictable outcomes in recent memory.  The NFL brags of being a great league because of all the parody, but both the Patriots and the Eagles two #1 seeds are meeting in the Super Bowl and the Patriots had the best odds pre-season of winning the big game in the first place.

The NBA finds itself in a similar predicament, but the argument can be made that there is parody everywhere and in both conferences.  Yes the Dubs are well on their way, but the rest of the conference is up in the air, and Golden State is a threat to lose almost any night against a Western Conference opponent.  The East is wide open as well with the Celtics and Cavs only a slight cut above the pack… a pack of decent teams even if Detroit who hasn’t had a star in a decade before acquiring Blake Griffin still has a shot at the 8-seed.

It’s crazy right, and it has made betting the NBA extremely difficult.  Even injuries or scheduling barriers aren’t providing the angles that are usually present when betting games, meaning Vegas as usual is spot on, and the casual bettor is getting their ass handed to them.  I’m here to break this trend, or at the very least give you something to think about.

Let’s take a couple shots down field (Current Record 2-3).

Portland Trailblazers -7.5 vs Chicago Bulls

The Trailblazers are hot right now and have been dominant offensively at home.  The Bulls are busy trying to move players around and have look disjointed and unorganized on offense since Kris Dunn has been out.  The Bulls are banged up at the PF position and Portland is hungry and firing on all cylinders right now.  I expect a double-digit win here.

Miami Heat +3 at Cleveland Cavaliers

Miami has a great roster with a lot of good shooters, which poses as a terrible matchup for the Cavs.  The Heat excel in close games and are a well-coached team.  Kevin Love’s injury is hurts but is not a line killer as the Cavs are still favored in this one.  The Heat will come into Cleveland and give them everything they can handle in a close game that will go right down to the wire, and may require an extra OT period.  Heat will cover in the end.  # PARODY

New York Knicks +9 at Boston Celtics

Nine points is a ton for Boston to handle coming off the road.  A well-rested Knicks team gets up for a rivalry game and I fully expect the Celtics to be sluggish in this one.  The absence of Marcus Smart takes a serious defensive edge off this team and stretches out their bench.  Boston still wins but they don’t cover.
