Des Boodram

It’s a special Valentine’s day edition of Plays That Pay and I am officially on the rebound this happy Wednesday after several of my stud players like Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, Eric Bledsoe and Robin Lopez all failed to hit value.  That’s just too many players.  As competitive as daily fantasy basketball is, you can ill afford to have even one player not hit value.

Even 300 point rosters seldom cut it on FanDuel, and identifying nine players to hit value is difficult.  You have to find value where you can, and both your studs and value plays have to hit.  It’s tricky, but it can be done every night… so have faith, and put in the work… there are some plays I love on tonight’s slate – so let’s get to work.

POINT GUARD – Damian Lillard – $9000

Lillard is a pure volume play here regardless of how well the Trail Blazers do in this one.  He’s going to take the majority of the shots, he’s at home, and he’s wonderfully priced at $9K – I think he’ll crush value tonight with a 50 fantasy point night – as long as Portland can keep it close at home.  A blowout would be bad news – but I’m a believer in Lillard and that the Trail Blazers will keep it close.
SHOOTING GUARD – Kentavious Caldwell-Pope $5500

I’m still not sure while Pope, who is a starter is priced so low.  He’s crushed value the past two games and at $5500 he’s a cash game must for me.  I love this matchup and like the chances of a scoring fest where players on both teams hit value. I’ll likely look for more plays from this matchup aside from KCP, but a starting guard against a bad defense for less than $6K – sign me up…

SMALL FORWARD – Mario Hezonja $6200

Ok –  he’s not the sexist name out there, but his uptick in minutes demand recognition.  It’s Valentine’s Day, do you love players with great matchups?  Thirty minutes per game? Who play well at home?  That’s Hezonja, and I like his spot, and his new found volume with Elfrid Payton shipped off to Phoenix.
POWER FORWARD – Lauri Markkanen – $6400

Markkanen who admittedly has the last name of a Finish hockey player shouldn’t be judged on his name as much as his play of late.  He’s been better since coming off an injury and 30 fantasy points per game should be expected moving forward.  The matchup is average, but Markkanen torched the Raptors last time out in Toronto.  He’ll get over 30 minutes again, but Toronto lacks size at the three and four spots… and Markkanen can take advantage.  No fear!

CENTER – Andre Drummond – $10600

Drummond vs Atlanta is the best matchup amongst top end centers tonight.  I love him more than Anthony Davis who needs 59 points just to hit value and is $1200 more.  I love him more than Joel Embiid who has a tough matchup and struggled his last time out against Miami scoring only 17 points with six turnovers.  Drummond on the other hand has a decent matchup and is a great candidate for another double-double as the Piston’s big man went for 25 and 15 with three blocks in his last game against Atlanta.

Good Luck Gamers!!
