Finishing 2-1-1 seems like a major ordeal as this year’s bracket is jacked up all to hell. Many final four brackets were busted on the first day with the Arizona loss, but for those who escaped that likely didn’t dodge the cannon blast that was the UVA loss to UMBC… the worse loss in NCAA tournament history happened just hours ago when a #16 took down the #1 seed in the entire tournament.
As usual Vegas knew what the heck they were talking about, even more so than the committee who chose which teams would actually make it in. Case in point UK favored by five over Davidson wins by exactly five… a push that yielded a major take for sports betting entities. Loyola Chicago and San Diego State held serve while St. Bonnies became double digit Gator meet.
I’ll be honest my bracket looks like splattered road kill, but against the spread I’m feeling it. With a crazy round one that had a bunch of upsets in the books, let’s look ahead to round 2.
Buffalo +5.5 vs Kentucky
Listen, if Davidson can play UK within four points, than so can the team that just beat Arizona. Buffalo is chalked full of shooters, but Kentucky defends the perimeter as good as anybody in college. It looks like one of those years where UK is going to pin ball themselves into the final four, I like UK to win but without the cover.
Michigan -3.5 vs Houston
Michigan covers this with ease. This team is so much better than Michigan teams past, and they play defense. It was good to see them shake off the rust against Montana, but it’s time for them to shake Houston.
Rhode Island +9.5 vs Duke
This spread is too big. Rhode Island is packed with all seniors that athletically match up. Their guard play is awesome, but they are not getting any respect. Duke is great, and there’s no question to me they’ll win, but this game is going to be much closer than Duke Nation would prefer.
Seton Hall +4.5 vs Kansas
Seton Hall has looked so good this season and they have been peaking. This is bad news for Kansas as they have looked shaky for parts of the last month. Seton Hall could win this game straight up, but this spread is big enough for them to cover at the very least. Never discount teams with all multiple senior starters.
