DAILY FANTASY BASEBALL Monday April 2nd – Plays That Pay

April 2nd, 2018

By Des Boodam

Opening pitches across the country have taken place and opening weekend is behind us with little incident.  Aaron Judge is scaring fantasy owners right now, and Mike Trout who didn’t strike out one time this spring went 0-6 with a K in his first game.  Scooter Gennett had a four hit game, Luis Severino looks like a stud, Lance McCullers Jr. opened with a 10 K outing and the Milwaukee Brewers look stacked.

All of this is somewhat predictable.

The question is can you take baseball’s predictable statistical output by players, and convert it into profit in the daily game.  It’s way easier said than done.  Moving forward, as long as I’m giving you sound advice I’m going to give you at multiple daily lineups per week, while also looking at individual lines to see if we eek out some margin while taking on Vegas straight up.

Let’s take a look at some of my fave plays for Monday.

SP – Taijuan Walker $7900 vs Los Angeles
Tonight’s pitching slat is a freaking disaster, I’m almost mad about it.  The chalky pick will be Charlie Morton, but Walker has the highest ceiling for the price tonight.  He’s at home, but Arizona is a cess pool for runs, and he’s up against one of the most dangerous lineups in the majors.  Except for one problem.  The Dodgers look lost without Justin Turner.  They have been soft hitting thus far, and Walker will take advantage of that.

1B – Marwin Gonzalez $2900 vs Baltimore

I love Gonzalez as a value play tonight.  He’s playing at home in the middle of a great lineup and against a scrub pitcher with a high WHIP.  He may go 0-4 but he’ll get great pitches every AB… so get him in your lineup.

2B – Jose Altuve $4500 vs Baltimore

Yes –  a full Houston Astro stack is in order.  Altuve is the best of the best, and if I’m going to skimp at 1B – I’m going all out somewhere else and Altuve at home against a scrub pitcher seems to make a lot of sense.

3B – Alex Bregman $3200 vs Baltimore

I loved Bregman pre-season. And he’s off to a slow start, but this game against the Orioles at home is just what the doctor ordered.  I’m certain the top of this order will get on base a ton, giving Bregman a full deck during his ABs with a lot of fastballs.  Mark it down.

SS – Carlos Correa $4200 vs Baltimore

This team is full of five-tool studs and Correa is one of them.  Chris Tillman was 1-7 last season with a 7.84 ERA and 1.89 WHIP… one of the worst lines in the majors, he’s simply over his head in this one.

OF – Adam Eaton $3400 at Atlanta

This is a dream matchup for a player that’s been white hot this season.  Eaton bats left and is going up against Sean Newcomb who is a lefty with an ERA north of 4.50 and a WHIP of north of 1.50.  Eaton is stepping up in a huge way right now.

OF – Stephen Piscotty $2200 vs Texas

Piscotty has hit’s in three of four games this season, and is dirt-cheap.  You only need a warm body when you are going up against a walk machine like Bartolo Colon.  I love the streakiness of Piscotty in a GPP tournament.

OF – Khris Davis – $3600 vs Texas
Yes this is a mini stack in stature compared to my Houston stack, but I love Davis’ upside here as he has the potential to hit multiple bombs in a game.  Davis is legit, and anytime he makes sense to roster I’m doing it.

UTIL – Marcus Semien $3000 vs Texas]

The price is right for Semien and so is the matchup.  Batting around multiple times, is appealing to me.  So as roster construction should have it… Semien makes the most sense here.
Good Luck Gamers.
