MLB Odds: Giants, Cubs Chase Down Wild Card

Just about anyone can make the National League playoffs this year. The San Francisco Giants wrapped up the weekend one game above .500 at 63-62, but they’re only 3.5 games behind the 66-58 Chicago Cubs, who hold down the second and final NL Wild Card berth. That makes Thursday’s game at Wrigley Field a must-see; the MLB Network will provide the first pitch at 2:20 PM ET.

Adding to the intrigue: Former Cub Jeff Samardzija (3.54 ERA) will take the mound for San Francisco. Samardzija has been on fire this summer, giving up just 13 runs combined in his last nine starts to improve his team record to 14-11 (Over 14-10-1). However, Samardzija has yet to defeat his former club in three attempts, allowing a collective .994 OPS along the way.

Kyle Hendricks (3.37 ERA) is due up for Chicago, and due for some good luck, too. The Cubs are just 10-13 in his 23 starts thus far, dropping eight of the last 10 and driving the Under to a 16-7 record on just 3.09 runs of support per game. Thursday’s forecast at press time calls for partly cloudy skies over Wrigley with light winds and temperatures in the mid-70s.
