On FanDuel – you can choose the “Starting Five” options, go to tournaments and then play a game for $0.25 that pays out to everybody who enters, all 237 entrants.  Naturally over half of those entries will take a loss, but that makes sense otherwise how would FD get paid.

The winner gets a whopping $2 and last place get’s a scrumptious $. 0.15.  Here’s the best part… you only have to pick five players… two guards, two forwards and a center.  Your budget is still $60K but the cheapest player is $8K.   In a regular cash game or GPP Anthony Davis would be $12,500 and in this format he’s $17K, but I will say the 5 players you roster in this format can always be used in other formats as well, you’ll just have to roster four other players.

I wanted to try this out for a couple of weeks before writing about, but because I’ve had some great success I’m comfortable sharing some insight.  It should also be noted that in the “Starting Five” format you can choose larger 2000-entry tournament where everybody gets paid.  The winner gets $30, but the a fewer percentage of people get paid.

Let’s take a look at Wednesday’s Starting Five.

Guard – Lonzo Ball

You don’t have a problem with Lonzo, you have a problem with his dad.  Don’t let that disdain cloud your judgment ok?  Ball is a stat sheet field filler that is NOT dominant on either side of the court, but he’s there.  He’s got all source of players around him as well that make plays and want the “ball” no pun intended.  Ball is selfless makes for an intriguing DFS play tonight and beyond.

Guard – Kris Dunn

I love Dunn to have a bounce back against a Memphis team that has lost 14 straight.  The Bulls team may actually lose this one, but Dunn won’t let that happen easily.  Dunn is a good player on a bad team with little upside.  Even though the Bulls have laid down doesn’t mean Dunn will.

Forward – Lauri Markkanen

Yes I have two Bulls, and I’m not happy about it.  The only problem is, they both get 30 minutes per game and can get streaky… this is what DFS is all about… picking streaky players that all hit on the same day.  Markkanen is too dumb to know to tank, so he’s going to take his 30 minutes and pile up 30 fantasy points.   If he goes off, you’ll look brilliant.

Forward – Kyle Kuzma

This is a no brainer with Brandon Ingram out.  Kuzma is the obvious starter and will get a lot of run.  He’s dirt cheap in this format and I have to roll with him.  I don’t feel dirty about it though, because the matchup is right.  I’m guessing he’ll be chalky though.

Center – Rudy Gobert

Anything less than a double-double will disappointing given the matchup.  The Pacers don’t really have anyone that can matchup with Gobert right now.  He’s hot on the team is unstoppable in the most subtle way possible.  The Rockets have been capturing the headlines, but the Jazz are surging as well.  A lot of this has to do with Gobert and his ability to dominate in the paint.
Good Luck with the new format gamers.
