Responsible Gambling — Resources and Support

Sports betting can be entertaining, intellectually engaging, and for some people, a profitable long-term pursuit. It can also become a serious problem. After nearly 30 years in this industry, I’ve seen both sides, and I’ve seen what happens when discipline breaks down.

The reason ATS STATS exists is to bring data, structure, and accountability to sports betting — to help bettors think like investors instead of gamblers. But no methodology, no system, and no statistical edge matters if betting stops being a choice and becomes a compulsion. If you or someone you know is struggling, please use the resources on this page. There’s no shame in asking for help. The professionals listed below are trained, confidential, and free.

Warning Signs

Problem gambling can develop gradually. Some signs to watch for:

  • Betting more than you can afford to lose
  • Chasing losses by increasing bet sizes
  • Lying about gambling activity or hiding it from family
  • Gambling to escape stress, anxiety, or depression
  • Borrowing money to gamble or pay gambling debts
  • Neglecting work, family, or personal responsibilities to bet
  • Feeling restless or irritable when not gambling
  • Repeated unsuccessful attempts to cut back or stop

If any of these patterns sound familiar — for yourself or someone close to you — the resources below can help.

Self-Exclusion Tools

If you need to take action immediately, most regulated sportsbooks offer self-exclusion programs that block your account from placing wagers for a set period. You can also use:

GamBan — Software that blocks gambling websites and apps across all your devices. Website: https://www.gamban.com/

GAMSTOP (UK) — Free self-exclusion service for UK-licensed gambling sites. Website: https://www.gamstop.co.uk/

In Canada, regulated provincial gaming operators (such as iGaming Ontario for Ontario, PlayNow for BC, and other provincial sites) operate self-exclusion programs that block your account from placing wagers. Contact your provincial gaming operator directly to enroll.
