One theme runs through the entire board, and it would have sounded absurd a decade ago: this is now a team that wins as a favorite — and one of the best bounce-back teams in football.
The number that defines the season
Start with the strongest spot on the whole schedule. When Detroit is laying a field goal to a touchdown — favored by 3.5 to 6.5 points — the Lions have been close to automatic.
The market prices the Lions as a genuine contender now, and they back it up. Road favorites with a total of 46 or higher are 13-1 straight up over the same window. When this team is favored, history is firmly on its side.
The Thanksgiving reality check · Week 12 vs Chicago
The most-circled game on the calendar is a trap.
Lions Thanksgiving is a tradition fans bet with their hearts. The data says bet the other way. Detroit has lost eight of its last ten on Turkey Day, and the Bears — this year’s Week 12 guest — have taken three of the last five meetings in Detroit.
That’s the tension that makes Week 12 the hardest game to handicap all year: red-hot recent home form against an ice-cold holiday trend, in the same building, on the same afternoon. Buyer beware.
The division covers · Minnesota, twice
The Vikings appear on the schedule twice, and both spots lean the same direction against the spread — Detroit just keeps covering this matchup, home or away.
Green Bay (Weeks 7 and 18) and the Week 17 trip to Chicago grade out closer to a coin flip historically, so those games lean on the conditional triggers below rather than a locked edge.

Each game is graded from the Lions’ perspective for line, favorite/underdog status, margin, and result. Records read as SU (straight up), ATS (against the spread), and O/U (over/under). Two non-Lions rows present in the source data were removed before analysis. The two “New York” opponents on the 2026 schedule (Weeks 3 and 16) are one Jets game and one Giants game; the official designation will confirm which is which, and neither carries a Detroit trend that affects this report.
